The weight of worry
Understanding the Weight of Worry
Worry often arrives quietly. It starts as a small "what if" and grows into a heavy load that you carry through your day. You might try to push it away or tell yourself to stop overthinking, but the worry stays.
In person-centred counselling, we do not try to fix or banish your worries. Instead, we turn toward them with kindness.
Why We Worry
* Protection: Your brain uses worry to scan for danger and prepare for the worst.
* Control: Worry tricks you into feeling like if you think about a problem enough, you can prevent it from happening.
* Care: Beneath almost every worry is something—or someone—you deeply care about.
Meeting Your Worries with Gentleness
When you are caught in a cycle of anxiety, being hard on yourself only adds more stress. You might think, "I shouldn't be worrying about this," or "Why can't I just be strong?"
What happens if you offer yourself a moment of grace instead?
* Acknowledge the feeling: Notice the worry without judging it. Tell yourself, "Of course I am feeling anxious; this matters to me."
* Breathe into the space: Allow your shoulders to drop and take one slow, deliberate breath.
* Remember you are not alone: You do not have to untangle the knots in your mind by yourself.
A Safe Space to Exhale
Therapy offers a quiet harbour where you can lay down your burdens. You do not need to have the right words, and you do not need a neat solution. You just need a safe, accepting space to be exactly as you are—worries and all.
Taking the Next Step
You don't have to carry this weight on your own. If you you would like to explore your worries in a warm, non-judgmental space, please reach out to book an initial session with me. We can sit with whatever you are carrying, at a pace that feels completely safe and comfortable for you.
